Born Bogyung Ko in South Korea, Lydia Ko began playing golf at the age of five when her mother took her to a driving range in Seoul. From then on, she was hooked. When she was six, her family moved to Auckland, New Zealand, settling minutes away from the famed Pupuke Golf Club. She learned and played competitive golf, eventually rewriting the record books of women’s golf.

In 2012, Lydia became the youngest person to win a professional golf event and later that year became the youngest to win an LPGA Tour event. In August of 2013, she became the only amateur to win two LPGA Tour events, rising to No. 4 in the Rolex Women’s World Golf Rankings and receiving LPGA Tour membership through the Tour Commissioner’s special exemption. After 130 weeks as the No. 1 amateur golfer, Lydia announced she was turning pro and made her debut at the 2013 CME Group Titleholders, now known as the CME Group Tour Championship.

In 2014, Lydia captured three titles and the CME Globe, the LPGA Tour's inaugural season-long points race. Her performance earned her the Louise Suggs Rolex Rookie of the Year award, making her the youngest ever to receive that honor. She was named one of Time magazine’s "100 Most Influential People."

Lydia Ko

On February 1, 2015, Lydia became the youngest player in golf history (male or female) to be ranked No. 1 in the world. Later that year, with Lydia’s win at the 2015 Evian Championship, she became the youngest athlete in the modern era of golf to win a major championship.
