Electronic Controlled Braking (ECB)

Electronic Controlled Braking (ECB) is an important component of the Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management system (VDIM[1]. ECB uses an electronic system to activate the brakes, utilizing a brake pedal position sensor to read the pedal's position and activate the master cylinder accordingly. A sophisticated Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) helps maintain directional control even during hard braking. To help ensure that the brake pedal is pressed hard enough during an emergency stop, Lexus offers the added benefits of Brake Assist [2]. By monitoring how quickly and forcefully the brake pedal is pressed, this feature helps compensate by automatically applying increased braking boost until the pedal is released.

[1]Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM) is an electronic system designed to help the driver maintain vehicle control under adverse conditions. It is not a substitute for safe driving practices. Factors including speed, road conditions and driver steering input can all affect whether VDIM will be effective in preventing a loss of control. Please see your Owner's Manual for further details. [2]Brake Assist is designed to help the driver take full advantage of the benefits of ABS. It is not a substitute for safe driving practices. Braking effectiveness also depends on proper brake-system maintenance and tire and road conditions. Back to top
