Equipped with a 2.4-liter Atkinson-cycle engine, the powerplant generates 187 total system horsepower. The highly efficient Atkinson-cycle engine, made possible by the Variable Valve Timing with intelligence (VVT-i) system, allows the expansion/power stroke to be significantly longer than the compression stroke, so that combustion energy can produce engine power more efficiently.

Performance is further enhanced by the Electronically controlled Continuously Variable Transmission (ECVT). Unlike typical automatic transmissions that have a fixed number of gear combinations, the hybrid's ECVT allows for virtually unlimited combinations, maximizing the powertrain's efficiency and allowing the driver to enjoy a smoother acceleration that can't be experienced with conventional transmissions.

To make efficient driving easier, a hybrid power meter shows instantaneous Eco Driving status, while a green ECO indicator light displays when you are driving efficiently.
