Picture the aggressively styled IS sport sedan—only sportier. Two doors, instead of four. And in place of a permanent roof, a seamlessly integrated, lightweight aluminum hardtop that retracts itself in a mere 21 seconds. It’s called the IS Convertible, and it’s coming to the U.S. in late Spring 2009.

The IS 350 C features a potent 3.5-liter, 306-horsepower [1] V6 engine, while the IS 250 C delivers an authoritative 204 horses [1] from its 2.5-liter V6—both available with six-speed automatic transmissions and race-inspired paddle-shift controllers. The IS 250 C also offers the option of a six-speed manual transmission.

Of course, we’ve included a number of advanced technologies to ensure the optimum driving experience when the top is down. The glass in front of the instrument gauges is designed to compensate for glare from the sun. The climate-control system increases air flow, adjusting to the vehicle’s speed and additional sunlight. And the sound system even features an equalizer that adapts to the natural loss of bass that occurs in the open air.

The IS Convertible also offers many of the Actively Safe features found in the IS sport sedans. This includes Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM) [2] for added driver control, an available Pre-Collision System [3], as well as a twin-chamber front-passenger airbag (SRS) [4]. The IS Convertible also includes the added peace of mind of seat-mounted side airbags.

The IS Convertible makes its U.S. debut at the 2008 L.A. Auto Show, November 21-30. New information will be released as it becomes available. So check back often. Or better still, to be among the first to receive future information about this exciting vehicle, sign up here.

Prototype vehicle shown with optional equipment. Production model may vary. [1]Ratings achieved using the required premium unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of 91 or higher. If premium fuel is not used, performance will decrease. [2]Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM) is an electronic system designed to help the driver maintain vehicle control under adverse conditions. It is not a substitute for safe driving practices. Factors including speed, road conditions and driver steering input can all affect whether VDIM will be effective in preventing a loss of control. Please see your Owner's Manual for further details. [3]The Pre-Collision System is designed to help reduce the crash speed and damage in certain frontal collisions only. It is not a collision-avoidance system and is not a substitute for safe and attentive driving. System effectiveness depends on many factors, such as speed, driver input and road conditions. Please see your Owner's Manual for further information. [4]All the airbag (“AB”) systems are Supplemental Restraint Systems. All ABs (if installed) are designed to inflate only under certain conditions and in certain types of severe collisions: frontal and knee ABs typically inflate in frontal collisions; side and side curtain ABs in side collisions; Roll-Sensing Curtain ABs at a severe tilt degree, roll or lateral G-force. In all other accidents, the ABs will not inflate. To decrease the risk of injury from an inflating AB, always wear seatbelts, sit upright in the middle of the seat as far back as possible and do not lean against the door. Do not put objects in front of an AB or around the seatback. Do not use a rearward-facing child seat in any front passenger seat. The force of an inflating AB may cause serious injury or death. Please see your Owner’s Manual for further information/warnings. Back to top
