IS Model Details

The IS model line moves into 2009 with an impressive makeover: a revised exterior and interior revisions that enhance the overall design. New exterior features include a revised front bumper and grille, redesigned lower intake area, revised tail lamps and integrated turn-signal side mirrors. On the interior, the IS benefits from the addition of dark gray or espresso bird's-eye maple trim. This is complemented by contrast stitching which has been added to the seating, door panels and armrest.

Also new for 2009 is the adoption of Vehicle Dynamics Integrated Management (VDIM) [1] for the IS 250. Previously only available on the IS 350, VDIM has the capability to sense a loss of traction before it occurs, giving it an advantage over most conventional stability-control systems that only react after a loss of traction has occurred. Performance specifications remain the same for 2009. The IS 250 is equipped with a 2.5-liter V6 engine that puts out 204 hp [2] and 185 lb-ft of torque [2]. The IS 350 comes with a 3.5-liter V6 with 306 hp [2] and 277 lb-ft of torque [2].

When you insert your key into the ignition switch or bring a SmartAccess fob into the vehicle, the key transmits an electronic code to the vehicle. The engine will only start if the code in the transponder chip inside the key or SmartAccess fob matches the code in the vehicle's immobilizer. Because the transponder chip is embedded in the key or SmartAccess fob, it can be costly to replace. If you lose a key or SmartAccess fob, your Lexus dealer can help. Alternatively, you can find a qualified independent locksmith to perform high-security key services by consulting your local Yellow Pages or by contacting www.aloa.org. In all other accidents, the ABs will not inflate. To decrease the risk of injury from an inflating AB, always wear seatbelts, sit upright in the middle of the seat as far back as possible and do not lean against the door. Do not put objects in front of an AB or around the seatback. Do not use a rearward-facing child seat in any front passenger seat. The force of an inflating AB may cause serious injury or death.
