Our love of exploration and need to constantly innovate are at our very core. And ever-expanding. To create our groundbreaking hoverboard, we reengineered core technologies to push the limits of propulsion techniques. The final design successfully merged crafted details, modern materials and technical innovation. We're also working to create artificial intelligence that will eventually be used in self-driving cars and technology for our first hydrogen fuel-cell vehicle. The present looks very bright indeed.

WE PUT OUR VEHICLES TO THE TEST. AND THEN TEST THEM AGAIN.

To put a Lexus through its paces, we go way beyond the track. We subject prototypes to temperatures ranging from 225°F to -30°F and expose them to every weather condition. Back at our factories, we not only have one of the world's most advanced driving simulators, but our innovative wind tunnel has improved handling, speed and acoustics in countless ways. And when it comes to safety, our virtual crash-test system, THUMS, is so effective, we didn't rush out to patent it—we ended up sharing it with the world.

With R&D, we've turned technology into an art form. We place drivers at the center of it all, testing the shape of the steering wheel, making sure the placement of the instruments and every touchpoint represents luxury in its most simple, intuitive form. We’ve also mapped the exact motions of the most gifted automotive painter in the world so, robots can duplicate the flawless technique on every Lexus. And Calty, one of our many design studios worldwide, continues to push the boundaries of automotive thinking from the iconic SC 400 in 1991 to, most recently, the award-winning LF-LC concept car.

We've been forward-thinking since the beginning. Lexus was the first in the world to introduce a Driver Attention Monitor,* a Pedestrian Detection System,* an Advanced Parking Guidance System* and more. Our climate-control system is the product of decades of studying everything from how the brain interprets temperature to the thermodynamic properties of leather. And when Mark Levinson®,* known for their high-end home audio, finally picked an automobile quiet enough for their system, it was the LS. Even after all these firsts, we still know the most amazing things are yet to come.
