Charles Sifford

Charles Sifford

World Golf Hall of Fame member Charles Sifford was the first African-American golfer to play and win on the PGA TOUR. Charles made his first attempt at qualifying for the PGA TOUR in 1952, falling subject to threats and racial abuse. After winning the Long Beach Open in 1957 and gaining recognition among the professional community, Charles became a member of the PGA TOUR in 1961.

He captured his first senior victory at the 1975 PGA Seniors’ Championship and began playing on the Champions Tour (formerly known as the Senior Tour) when it was formed in 1980.
